The Baie Rouge Beach or the Red Bay Beach can be seen nestled in the Terres Basses area on the western tip of the island. It is a beach which has stunning features of calm and pink-tinged sand water which are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Amongst the beloved beaches here is Baie Rouge or the St. Martin beaches. The reason for this is that it has numerous laid-back atmosphere and amenities. There is also a beach bar on the Eastern side of the beach, complete with a chair, restaurant and umbrella rentals. This beach is an ideal place to spend a lazy afternoon on this beautiful beach of French St. Martin. Dating back to 4,000 BC some remnants of the Stone Age settlements have been discovered here. The Arawak Indians settled most of the Caribbean islands around 800 AD. These people came from South America to settle here to a life of hunting, fishing and farming in St. Martin/ St. Maarten were not an exception.
