Western Finland was an important region of Finland from 1997 to the year 2009. The province was bordered with other regions like Southern Finland, Oulu, and Eastern Finland. It also has Aland and Gulf of Bothnia as its borders. Finland is located in the geographical area of Fennoscandia that includes Scandinavia. Finland, where Western Finland is located is a parliamentary republic with local governments in about 317 municipalities, Aland Islands, a central government based in Helsinki which is the capital and also an autonomous region.
