Aquitaine is a province of France positioned close to the Atlantic Ocean and Pyrenees mountain range. Earlier it was an administrative province of the country. Following January 2016, it was become a part of the new province named as New Aquitaine. There are five departments in the province. It is a leader in the field of aeronautics. The major economic activity in the region is agriculture. It is attributed to good rainfall in the province. Corn is the major produce. Also, there is abundance of grape vineyards. Wine production is also carried out at large scale. The province is also famous for its attractive tourist spots.

History

Aquitaine was dwelled by the Romans in ancient times. Then the counts of Poitiers ruled the region from 10th to the 12th centuries. The region remained under French rule from 1137 to 1154. Then it came under the rule of English people. Following French Revolution, the creation of departments took place in the province. The county made considerable progress on economic front in the 19th century.

The total population of Aquitaine is 3,150,890. It is in fact equal to 6% of the total population of the France. It is a densely populated region. It ranks 6th in the list of most populous regions in the country. Based on the languages, the total population is divisible into two parts. Climate

There is lovely oceanic climate in Aquitaine all through the year. Even during peak summer season, the temperature remains tolerable at an average of 27° C. Likewise the temperature in winters is also favourable with an average of 12° C. There is plenty of rainfall in the county throughout the year. North-west winds are quite common in the region. Thunderstorms are also experienced commonly in the hot summers.
