Comps-sur-Artuby is a small town in south-eastern France. It is located in the Var subdivision of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur district of the country. The city spreads over an area of 63.49s.km. It is the closest town towards the eastern entrance of the Gorges du Verdon. The village is located in the hills in a wide bypass. Originally, it was a hovering village and underwent many changes in the history to get settled into its present day position. The village is quite pleasant as there are numerous things of natural beauty in and around village. There are forests and hills all around the village that impart it an astonishing look. It is worth noting that the city is popularly and commonly referred to as Comps.

History

The foremost records of the original name Cumbis for the village are traced back to the 11th century. It implies the history of the city is as old as 11th century. The traces of Chalcolithic and Iron Age are traced back to prehistoric times in the village. During medieval time in the 13th century, the city was under the administration of Hospitalers. The city was defeated by the Charles de Duras that resulted in origination of small settlements around the village. The administration of the city came under the control of Ponteves along with Duras due to donation given by the Reine Jeanne. In the years 1163 and 1244, the city was inhabited by the Arnaud and Bertrand respectively. Both of them were the grand masters of Malta. Among the various celebrities in the history of the village, the name of Père Pellas is also worth mentioning. He wrote the first Provençal dictionary in 1723.

The city has a total population of 320 inhabitants according to 2006 census reports. It has a population density of 5 per sq.km.

Climate

The city receives more rainfall in winter season as compared to the summer season. For this, reason, it enjoys warm and temperate climate. The climate here is supposed to be Csb type in accordance with Koppen and Geiger classification system. There is an average temperature and average rainfall of 10.3 °C and 843 mm respectively in the city. The hottest month of the year is July at an average temperature of 18.5 °C. In contrast to this, the coldest month of the year is January at an average temperature of 2.8 °C. The variation in average temperatures all around the year is 15.7 °C. The city receives an annual average precipitation of 843mm. The maximum amount of rainfall occurs in the month of November with an average of 99 mm. On the other hand, minimum amount of rainfall is received during the month of July with an average of 31mm. Hence November and July are considered to be the wettest and driest months of the year respectively. There is difference of 68mm in the precipitation between the wettest and driest months.
