Cotignac is a community in the south-eastern France. It is located in the Var subdivision in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’ Azur. It is spread over an area of 44.26sq.km. History

The name of the city Continnacum can be found in the historical records during 1030. The history of the city dates back to the Roman times. The city became animate only during 1100s when the foremost chapel called as Chapel St Martin was built. Production of silk and leathern tanning became major economic activities from 1400s. The city came to limelight during 1950s with the building of house of the famous actresses like Brigitte Bardot and French singer Joe Dassin. The Gallo-Roman period of the city can be remembered from the leftovers at Nestby. These are located close to the city. During medieval times, the city witnessed massive Jewish settlement in the 6th century. The city was ruled by the Lords of Castellane following the Viscounts of Marseille and the Ponteves and Simiane families during 6th century.
