Esparron is a small town in the south-eastern France. It is exactly located in Var subdivision of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur district. It expands over an area of 30.04sq.km. There is abundance of woods and forests in the entire city and also around it. That is why the city is known for its natural and scenic beauty. The major economic activities in the city include agriculture, forestry, fishing and tourism. There are large numbers of olive trees in the city. The city is located at a height of 480ft above sea level. The exact location of the city is towards northwest of the Var subdivision in a hilly area. It is worth noting that the village still preserves its old character. It is looked upon by a prison. There are beautiful houses with lintels in the village.

History

The history of the city dates back to the prehistoric times when the first human civilization was found in the Vances Valley. At that time, Celtic-Ligurian camps were found in the surrounding hills. The city was also inhabited by the Romans and Saracen people. In the year 1025, the city got divided into two provinces. These were an ecclesiastical fiefdom around the Notre Dame monastery and a secular lordship belonging to Geoffrey of Rians and his brother Hugues des Baux. The 11th century witnessed establishment of the “Bastida Sparroni”. In 1348, the city was affected by the plague. In the 15th century, sheep farming got developed in the city. From then till 19th century, the city was passed on to many hands in succession. Finally, it was taken over by Germaine Jerphanion resumed Esparron in 1918. It is worth noting that the battle of Esparron that took place in 1591 is of great historical importance. This battle was fought amid the Royalists and the troops of the Duke of Savoie.

The total population of the city is 430 inhabitants as per 2008 census. Its population density is 13persq.km.

Climate

Due to more rainfalls in winter season, Esparron enjoys a warm and temperate climate throughout the year. The Koppen and Geiger classification system categorizes this type of climate into Csb type. The average temperature in the city is 12.2 °C. The maximum and minimum average temperatures are recorded during the months of July and January respectively. These are 20.6 °C and 4.3 °C in that order. Thus these are the hottest and coldest months of the year. The average temperatures vary by 16.3 °C throughout the year. The annual average rainfall received in the city is 741 mm. The maximum and minimum amount of average rainfall received in the city is 86mm and 25mm correspondingly. It is during the months of October and July respectively. Hence both these are considered to be wettest and driest months of the year in that order.
