Gassin is a community in the south-eastern France. It is located in the Var subdivision in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur area. Gassin is located at a height of less than 4 km above the sea level on a rock. The city is close to the road named D559 that serves as a connection amid the Hyeres and Sainte-Maxime. Also the famous holiday destination of Saint Tropez lies close to the city. The city is spread over an area of 24.74sq.km. It is worth noting that Gassin is considered to be the most beautiful village in France. It is because you can have amazing view of the Golfe de St. Tropez, the Iles d’Or and other hills around from the city.

History

The history of Gassin can be traced back to 1234 when foremost civilizations appeared on this land. It is in fact one of the most ancient villages in the South of France. The name of the village has been derived from ‘Garcin’ from 10th century. The Romans occupied the city and were credited for agricultural development in the city. The castle on the rock was built by the Knights Templar. The town was also occupied by the Moors during 13th century. It is evident from the leftovers of the same. It is believed that the main purpose of creation of the town was to let local people escape the pirates. The latter sailed through Mediterranean waters to the city. During 19th century, various industries such as cork and silk worms developed in the city. Additionally, charcoal making by the local people was also among the chief trades during that time.

The prevailing climate in the city is warm and temperate. There is more rainfall in the winter season as compared to summer season. The climate here is considered to be Csb type as per Koppen and Geiger classification system. Here the average temperature is 14.4 °C. The average temperatures during the hottest and coldest months are 21.8 °C and 7.7 °C respectively. It is during the months of July and January in that order. The annual average temperatures vary by 14.1 °C all through the year. The annual average rainfall received by the city is 802 mm. During the month of November, the maximum rainfall of 111mm on an average is received by the city. On the other hand, the least rainfall is received during the month of July when it is 11mm on an average. There is difference of 100mm of rainfall amid the driest and wettest months of the year.
