Le Lavandou is a popular commune of the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It is located on the banks of Mediterranean Sea facing the Golden Island and on the foot of the Massif des Maures. The Hyeres and Cavalaire are the closest towns of this village within 20 km difference by road. The name is derives from the Lavender flower that is very common floret of this area. This village is located exactly at the spot where the famous ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square’ was written in the 1939.

History

This village was discovered by the Greeks Alconis settlement located near the Le Lavandou, in Cavalière Bay. This place has long existed in the marina and its surroundings were commonly destroyed by the pirates and other troops. In the 1831, this village has 146 residents with the origins of Catalan and Genoese. In 1880, the port was built by the inhabitants for reducing their efforts to bring fishes from the rich Mediterranean Sea. Before 1913, this village was the part of Bormes-les-Mimosas but it was adopted by the central government on 25 May 1913. In 1942, November the 8th allied forces landed in Morocco and Algeria during World War II in response to German troops occupied the Southern Italian and Le Lavandou. On the 15 August 1944, allied forces marched into this place to unoccupied this village from German troops.

This village has mild and temperate climate in the summer and most of the precipitation occurs during winter season as compared to the summers. It is supposed to be Csb type in correspondence with the Koppen and Geiger classification system. The average temperature in the village is 13.0 °C. The maximum average temperature is around 20.4 °C in the month of July. For this reason, it is called as the hottest month all-round the year. On the other hand, minimum average temperature in the village is around 3.8 °C in January and that is why it is called as the coldest month of the year. There is variation of approximately 6.6 °C in the average temperatures throughout the year. The village receives an annual average rainfall of 800 mm with maximum rainfall of 98mm is received during the month of October. Hence it is the wettest month of the year. Minimum average rainfall received in the village is 38 mm. There is difference of 60 mm of rainfall amid the driest and the wettest months of the year.
