History

The history of the city can be traced back to the Gallo-Roman era as its original name that was of Celtic-Ligurian origin was discovered during this period only. This place was dedicated to the God Thor. The Count of Provence named Raymond Berenger donated a part of the existing common territory to a commune of Cistercian monks settled near Tourtour. Disconnection of the goods took place in the 17th century in the village that led to the creation of the Saintes-Maries community in 1664. This community was then solemnized as the names of the small town Camails the Codouls, the Village, the Moutas, the Bertrands and so on. The village was authorized as the administrative sovereignty of the thoroneenne community in 1735. The mining of the basement of the town was carried out in the 12th century to extract bauxite ore. The mining of this important ore came to an end in 1980 forever.
