Mazaugues is a village in the south-eastern France. It is situated in the Var subdivision of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’ Azur area. It is spread over an area of 53.79sq.km. It is worth noting that Mazaugues is sluggish little village. It is located in the Var hills on the base of the Caramy River. Since it is a small village therefore it is very easy to explore it completely. There are numbers of interesting things in the village. Owing to its unique location in the valley, the village has a dark tone. There are small streets and old doorways in the village that keep the visitors captivated for long time. Mazaugues used to be a centre of ice making in the historical times. There is also an amazing ice museum in the village. The name of the village has been derived from the Provencal word ‘maougo’. The basic meaning of this term is ‘mass of air’. The fresh air and the natural scenic beauty at the outskirts of the village justify its name. The village is surrounded by extremely high hills.

History

The first records of the name Madaligas of the village is found in 984. The basic meaning of Madaligas is Le Pays de L’eau which means country of water. The sequential domains of the Viscounts of Marseille, Castellane and Thomassin from Medieval times can still be found in the village. All these are witnesses of various civilizations in the village during historical times.

As per 2006 census, the total population of the city is 687. It has a population density of 13 per sq.km.

The prevailing climate in the village is warm and temperate. The city receives more rainfall during winters as compared to the summer season. As per Koppen and Geiger classification system, the climate in the city is classified into Csb type. The village has an average temperature of 12.4 °C. The city has highest average temperatures during July. It is around 20.6 °C on an average. In comparison to this, the least temperature in the city is recorded during the month of January. It is 5.2 °C on an average. That is why these months are considered to be the hottest and coldest months of the year respectively. There is variation of 15.4 °C in the average temperatures during the year. The city receives an average rainfall of 748 mm on annual basis. There is maximum rainfall during the month of October with an average of 91mm. On the other hand, least amount of rainfall is received during the month of July with an average of 19mm. Hence both these are considered to be the wettest and driest months of the year in that order. There is difference of 72 mm of rainfall amid these two months.
