Ollieres is a municipality in the south-eastern France expanded over an area of 39.66sq.km. It is located in the Var section in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur area. It is a small but pretty village. It is located in a wooded valley at a distance of around 4km to the northwest of St-Maximin-la-Ste-Baume. There is a group of medieval houses on a small hill. It is worth noting that Ollieres has a tranquil atmosphere. Hence it is a great place for relaxation and picnics. The village is known for its natural beauty and awesome views. There are hills and forests around the village that impart it an awesome appearance. The tourists enjoy capturing the pictorial beauty of the city in their cameras. History

The history of the village dates back to 1008 when the foremost records of the name Oliarrias of the city are founded. It is supposed to be derived from the term Oules that refers to the spherical pottery. This type of pottery was once manufactured in the city during the middle ages. The city was one among the “Three Grand Lands” of Provence along with Cadarache and Gémenos from 10th to the 20th centuries. Also there are signs of Roman inhabitation in the city at a place known as “La Pièce Romaine“. The basic meaning of this place is The Roman Coin.

The city has a total population of 616 inhabitants as per 2006 census. It has a population density of 16persq.km.

Climate

Ollieres has a mild, warm and temperate climate. There are more rains during the winter season as compared to the summers. The Koppen and Geiger classification system classifies the climate of the city into Csb type. The city has an average temperature and average rainfall of 12.7 °C and 716 mm in that order. July and January are the hottest and coldest months of the year. These have average temperatures of 21.0 °C and 5.1 °C correspondingly. The average temperatures vary by 15.9 °C in a year. The months of October and July are the wettest and driest months with average precipitation of 88mm and 19mm respectively. The difference amid the precipitation in these two months is 69mm.
