Port Grimaud is a coastal town in the Var subdivision. It is also referred to as Venice of Provence. The town is exactly located in the centre of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The town is close to the Sainte Maxime as well. It is located on the French Riveria. This coastal town has everything to cater to daily needs of the locals as well as the tourists. The village has colourful buildings, Roman tiles, narrow streets, shops etc. One of the most important points about Port Grimaud is that it is totally traffic free. Hence you can easily roam around in the streets and local markets. The town is known for wide range of water sports as well as boats.

History

It is worth noting that Port Grimaud is a medieval village. The history of its origin dates back to the Gallo-Roman age. The first human population settled in the town during 11th century in an equipped castle. The human population thus settled here took control of the entire village from the Northern side as well as from the Maures Mountains. The Castle of Grimaud served as a command post till 19th century. It is located over the Gulf of Grimaud. The actual development of the town commenced during 1960s. It started around the Gulf and led to the establishment of marina of Port Grimaud. During 1970s, further development took place and the town got spread towards the east. The third phase of the development of town got accomplished in the 1990s. The credit of concept, design and construction of the town goes to an architect named Francois Spoerry. Right from the year 2001, the village is registered as the ‘Heritage of the 20th century’.

According to 2012 census, the city has a total population of 4,041 residents.

Climate

Port Grimaud enjoys a lovely climate all through the year. It is due to nearness to the water bodies. Cool breeze keeps on blowing that makes the weather quite pleasant. The maximum average temperature is recorded in the month of July. It is 24°C and hence the hottest month of the year. On the other hand, minimum temperature is noticeable in the month of January when it drops down to 8°C. Mostly there are sunny days in the city. The month of October receives maximum rainfall with an average of 151mm. August is considered to be the best month for swimming and other water sports and activities.
