Sollies-Toucas is a small town in the south-eastern France located on the green banks of the Gapeau River. It is Situated in the Var subdivision of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur area of the country. There are winding streets in the village that all lead to village squares. There are ancient plane trees at this place. The village has a long history of its origin and development. It is expanded over an area of 30.09sq.km. It is a perfectly suited place for fishermen and those who wish to have a completely serene atmosphere around them.

History

The history of the city is quite old. It can be traced back to the end of 15th century. Two brothers named Bernardus Tocasso and Diano Marino settled here during 1501 year. They are credited for building the foremost house in the valley in the 16th century. This house in fact became the settlement of Toucas which was located close to the water source called as ‘Thon Fountain’. Their future families then moved to the current location of the city thereby leading to its development. The city became independent in 1799 and the name Sollies Toucas was then given to the city. Before the Christian era, the city was inhabited by a Neolithic Tribe. Also existence of Gallic tribes can be found in the Oppidum Castellas. Following this, the city became a home for Greeks and Romans. Also there are traces of invasion of Arabs in the valley during 711. From then till date, the city was passed on to many hands. Large scale development took place in the city during 19th century. Now it is equipped with all the modern amenities

According to 2006 census records, the village has a total population of 5000 people. Its population density is 170 per sq.km.

Climate

Due to more precipitation in winter season, the city has a warm and temperate climate. This type of classification is supposed to be Csa type as per Koppen and Geiger classification system. The maximum average temperature is recorded at an average of 22.3°C during the month of July. That is why it is the hottest month of the year. On the other hand, January is the coldest month of the year as it has the least average temperature of 7.6 ° C. The city has an average temperature of 14.4 ° C. The variation in the average temperatures around the year is 14.7 ° C. With maximum rainfall of 92mm on an average during the month of November, it is the wettest month of the year. On the other hand, the month of July is the driest one as it has receives the least amount of rainfall on an average of 12mm. There is difference of around 80mm of rainfall amid these two months.
