The name refers to the two historic regions of Poland, Warmia, and Masuria. The region of Warmia is known as Ermeland in the German language. The Warmian province was a part of East Prussian region of the kingdom of Prussia. This region was added by the countries of Poland and Soviet Russia after the 2nd World War. The Podlaskie province is located in the north-eastern region of Poland. The cities of Olsztyn and Białystok are the capitals of these two provinces.
