Being a Southeastern European country Romania is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and is known for its heavily forested region called Transylvania. Romania is the twelfth largest country in Europe, having an area of 238,400 square kilometers. Romanian is the official language of this country. Bucharest is the capital city and when visiting Romania, you will find fortified castles and churches besides the medieval towns which reflects te history of this country. The cliff top of the Bran Castle is known for its association with the legends of Dracula, and when you visit Bucharest, you will find the palatial Government building that was built during the communist reign. Large numbers of rivers and lakes are to be found in Romania, the origins of which are the surrounding mountains. There are a number of interesting places to visit and activities to participate in, that makes this country an ideal holiday destination.
