Alfarnate is one of the seven districts of La Axarquia that makes up the Ruta del Aceite y los Montes. The town is arranged more than 900m above ocean level and is additionally encompassed by the Sierras of Enmedio, Palomera, and Jobo. Alfarnate is abnormal among the towns in the comarca of Axarquia, in that it doesn't have many steep streets, in spite of the fact that its homes are ordinarily Andalucian - low and whitewashed.The town, also called Puebla de Alfarnate (the old name of the region vanquished by the Moors), makes them intrigue structures, for example, La Casa Consistorial (the Town Hall), the most established in Malaga region, which dates from the sixteenth century; and the Ermita de la Virgen de Monsalud, arranged in the higher part of the town, from a similar period. The most important architectural feature of the town is the church of Santa Ana, with its three-story Mudejar tower; while the Venta de Alfarnate which is located around two km from town centre and is now a restaurant-museum.
