The economic activity in the country is chiefly dominated by tourism. Also shipping sector has a strong influence on the economic aspect. History

In the history of the country, Stone Age hunters were the foremost settlers. After this, the country was inhabited by the farmers, Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations. The Middle Ages in the country witnessed numerous battles and assaults. The country was divided into small city-states during the era 500-336 BC. The Greek history was recorded for the first time by Herodotus. That is why he is believed to be the ‘Father of History’.

The approximate population of the country is around 10 933 457 inhabitants according to census records of January 2016. The population density here is 82 per sq km.The population has decreased by -0.40% as compared to the year 2015. It is due to more deaths as compared to the births. Also the population decrease is contributed by migration. The sex ratio in the country is 980 males/1000 females. Around 4 million people are settled in the capital Athens.

Climate

There is distinctive Mediterranean climate in the country. summer is comparatively hot and dry. In contrast to this, the winters are mild. Most of the rainfall occurs during winter season. There are mostly sunny days in the country. Thunderstorms and short spells of rains may be experienced in some areas during summers. The temperature becomes excessively high during end of July and start of August. During winters, the temperature remains tolerable.
